About the Event
Hosted by Leela Foundation's Shastriya Festival, this program reflects our mission to link community and the arts through dance, music, and thoughtful dialogue.
Sreelakshmy Govardhanan (Kuchipudi):
Sreelakshmy trained in the Yakshagana tradition under Guru Pasumarthy Rattaiah Sarma in Kuchipudi village (Andhra Pradesh) and is known for her abhinaya and footwork. She holds the Kalashree, Kala Ratna, and Natya Ratna titles and directs her own school, Avantika Space for Dance.
Shweta Prachande (Bharatanatyam):
Trained by Dr. Sucheta Chapekar and, principally, by Priyadarsini Govind, Shweta went on to complete an MFA in Bharatanatyam and a Dance Studies program at Trinity Laban Conservatoire in London. She danced in Govind's large-scale production "Angkor" and created "Samvaada," a virtual collaboration with Carnatic vocalist Rithvik Raja — work that reflects her ongoing interest in bringing classical form into new contexts.
Two artists, two lineages, and one stage forming a bridge between them.
