About Leela Foundation

Our Vision

To explore the truth and beauty in all art forms and celebrate their unity of spirit.

Our Mission

  • To link the community and the arts through performance, education, and outreach.

  • To create a space where artistic expression through dance, music, visual arts, and the written word is celebrated.

  • To educate, enthrall, and enliven.

Our DEI  Statement

We envision an artistic landscape that is diverse, equitable and inclusive for all who enjoy the arts, regardless of ethnicity, race, gender, age, ability, sexual orientation, geography or religion.

We recognize that diversity builds a more beautiful world and we strive to foster this principle.

A philosophy of collaborative creativity is at the center of this vision.

We acknowledge and draw on the power of art to act as a vehicle for personal transformation and social justice.

We welcome all arts, artists and art supporters!

Our approach

Growing Leela Dance Company from a semi-professional company to a professional company. To create high-quality work of arts, rooted in tradition while highlighting social issues across cultures. Host artistic residencies to develop new works. Create an
environment where dance and allied arts co-exist.

Encourage research to preserve Indian classical dance. Communicate the legacy of dance, through a Lecture Series initiative that will put the spotlight on Dance History and Philosophy.

Participate in local community events. Conduct workshops at schools, colleges, and community events. Highlight the enormous benefits of dance for physical and mental well-being.

Announcing - Scholarships Available!

As part of the Leela Foundation’s commitment to expanding opportunities for our community, we feel privileged to introduce a need-based scholarship program, supported by the NC Arts Council and designed to make dance programming offered at the Leela Foundation accessible to adults facing financial barriers.
